The Jimmy C. Award
Joel Taddei
2018 recipient
The 2018 Jimmy C Award winner is Joel Taddei.
Joel Taddei in 2017 moved to the Greenville area from Iowa and realized that there was a need to have an annual community event where we could get together. He took the concept, turned it into the first ever Carolina Code Conference in 2018. There were a little over 100 people there, but he pulled it together on a nothing budget, got sponsors, fed us well with Tropical Grill, established the tradition, and left a mark on his community that is going to stick around for a very long time.
In 2019, he continued his work, finding new venues, new speakers, and building momentum to the point that everyone kept asking him, "Hey Joel, when's the next Carolina Code Conference?" In 2020, COVID shut it down, but everyone kept asking, "When's the next Carolina Code Conference?" And that is because Joel's idea was right on the money. And it left an impact on the community. Something we didn't even know we needed was suddenly something we deeply missed. His work and vision made it that.
So, the 2018 winner of the Jimmy C Award is Joel Taddei.
